Geoff Chapple

Anyone who has anything to do with non-league football will not need informing as to the special managerial powers of a man called Geoff Chapple, but for the majority of us his name is greeted with a simple ‘WHO’?

The legend of Geoff Chapple started when he became the manager of non-league Woking. He led his side to several well-publicised FA Cup runs, in which they defeated the likes of West Brom, Barnet, Millwall, Cambridge as well as gaining a well deserved draw with Premiership Coventry, before losing 2-1 in the replay.

Chapple had success oozing out of every pour whilst at Woking, and he added to his cup achievements by winning the FA Trophy in 1994, 1995 and 1997. Promotion to the football league was the one prize that eluded the inspirational manager, cruelly missing out when twice finishing runners up in the Conference.

A surprise resignation from the club he seemed to have running through his veins in 1997, followed by a move to Ryman League side Kingstonian was not to be the end of his successful managerial career. Within one season Chapple earned the K’s promotion into the conference and led them to victory in the Surrey Senior Cup.

Chapple has fully established Kingstonian within the division, and has also managed to win another two FA Trophy finals in 1999 and 2000. The FA-Master can undoubtedly walk tall through the corridors of the non-league game knowing that he presides over all as the undisputed daddy of the conference.
